SportScotland chiefs will meet with council bosses to discuss concerns over job losses at West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust.
Earlier this year, we reported how planned cuts to West Dunbartonshire Leisure would see the loss of 5.5 full-time equivalent (FTE) staff, however, WDC say this is offset by current vacancies – reducing the impact to 2.6 FTE staff.
A new ‘sport and activity team’ would be formed to take on the running of local projects, including the Loch Lomond 10K and sport holiday camps.
There were also fears that the proposed cuts would see West Dunbartonshire lose out on £1m in funding from SportScotland.
Last week at a full council meeting, SNP councillor Jonathan McColl, asked for the latest on the proposed cuts.
Amanda Graham, WDC’s chief officer for citizens, culture and facilities, said: “The consultation is continuing with the Leisure Trust staff.
“I understand that further meetings are scheduled and engagement is continuing with the joint trade unions.
“In terms of SportScotland, I met with the organisation last week and we have a further meeting scheduled for this month.
“They had queries around the operation of Active Schools this year, given vacancies within the service.
“We are working with them in order to put in place a plan as to how we address that.
“We are in the final year of a four year partnership agreement. We have a meeting scheduled for October to begin discussions about the next four year partnership.”
