Sports giant Decathlon is set to open its second Irish store, which will be located in Limerick City.
The store, located at Parkway Retail Park, will officially open on Friday, May 12 and will see 64 new jobs created.
The 5,000 sqm store will house over 70 sports under one roof, with 400 free car parking spaces and an on-site café called Ampersand Store, which will have 1,500 sqm of “sport experience zones” including a climbing wall, cycling track, indoor gym, football pitch, basketball court and an outdoor area for fitness.
Emanuela Martone, Store Manager at Decathlon Limerick said Decathlon’s aim is to provide a complete sports experience to sports lovers.
"The brand’s flagship store in Ballymun was built with this idea in mind myself and my teammates are delighted that the Decathlon Limerick Sports Hub will follow the same concept.”
After the successful opening of Decathlon Ballymun in Dublin in 2020, Decathlon has branched out to Limerick.
After 18 months of sourcing, Decathlon secured a long-term partnership with Sigma Retail Partners for a 25 year lease on the store, close to the city centre and the University of Limerick.
Decathlon has stated that there will be a free click and collect service (within 3 hours of purchase) and next day shipping from the store, which will be open from 11am – 7pm for the opening day, and from 9.30am – 7pm each day thereafter.
"Inside the store will feature various testing zones, including a camping showroom and a space to “try before you buy” for some products. Decathlon Limerick will also work closely with local coaches and partners for sports events, the sports community café and logistics," Ms Martone added.
