Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim has seemingly ruled out a move for Cristiano Ronaldo as speculation continues over his future.
Ronaldo has been linked with an exit from Manchester United throughout the summer. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner wants to leave Old Trafford due to his desire to play Champions League football during the remaining years of his career.
With the Reds having failed to qualify for Europe’s top competition last season, that would of course mean the Portugal international having to leave. United though remain adamant that Ronaldo is not for sale, with the 37-year-old still having a year left on his contract following his return to the club last season.

With just under a month remaining in the transfer window though, speculation continues over the forward’s future. More fuel was added to the fire last weekend when Ronaldo left United’s friendly against Rayo Vallecano early, with Erik ten Hag criticising the decision.
A number of clubs have been linked with Ronaldo’s services, although no offers have yet been made public. Among the teams linked are Sporting, the club the forward began his career with.
Ronaldo has long been linked with a return to Lisbon, with his mother even urging him to make a move back to the club before he retires. It seems Sporting are not entertaining the idea of him returning this summer though.
Asked about the possibility during his pre-match press conference ahead Sporting’s opening league game against Braga, Amorim replied: “He is a Manchester United player and I will not be commenting on possibilities that don’t exist. He is a Manchester United player and it looks like he will continue [there].”
