Check out this week’s “Spinning Back Clique,” MMA Junkie’s weekly live show that takes a spin through the biggest topics in mixed martial arts. This week’s panel of Danny Segura, Brian “Goze” Garcia, and Dan Tom will join host “Gorgeous” George Garcia live at noon ET (9 a.m. PT) to discuss and debate:
- UFC on ABC 4 produced two great performances from the winners of the main and co-main events, Jailton Almeida and Johnny Walker, respectively. Almeida made quick work of heavy-handed Jairzinho Rozenstruick, while Walker bested one-time UFC title challenger Anthony Smith. Although there is still a lot of mountain left to climb for both Brazilian fighters, which do you believe in more to possibly win a UFC title?
- The trailer for “The Ultimate Fighter 31” is out, and it features Conor McGregor giving Michael Chandler a hard shove during their faceoff. But here’s the thing: The season premieres May 30 on ESPN, and we STILL don’t have a booking between the coaches. All UFC president Dana White could say this past weekend is “I don’t know” when asked about the hold-up, and that the UFC “will be working very hard to put the fight together.” How important is it for McGregor and Chandler to fight each other, and are you concerned at this point?
- Did you see the first Jake Paul vs. Nate Diaz press conference last week? It was held inside an empty American Airlines Center without fans in Dallas, and it didn’t feature the flying F-bombs and trash talk between the two guys you would’ve expected. Many felt that it fell flat in terms of creating buzz for the August 5th boxing match. Do you agree with that?
- Add Mike Perry to the current list of MMA free agents. Perry, who had a solid UFC run, has really found his groove in bare-knuckle fighting, going undefeated in three bouts and drawing many eyeballs to BKFC. He stated in a recent MMA Junkie Radio interview that he would like to box, hasn’t closed the door on MMA and really loves bare-knuckle fighting. If you were advising “Platinum,” where would you point him to and who would you like to see him compete against?
- Cris Cyborg finally re-signed with Bellator this past week. The move ends a period of uncertainty for the 37-year-old featherweight champion who fought out her contract in April of last year. Neither Kayla Harrison nor Amanda Nunes fight under the Bellator banner, although Cat Zingano does. Guys, thumbs up or thumbs down on Cyborg re-signing with Bellator?
