Spicy Hilary Duff I/V About Cutting Off Friends Resurfaces Amid Mum Group Drama

Hilary Duff

With the “toxic” mum group drama taking over the universe — AKA Ashley Tisdale‘s scathing The Cut takedown of ex-friends Hilary Duff, Mandy Moore, Meghan Trainor and co. — naturally, fans have started digging into recent comms from the celebrity mums. A recent interview with Duff is proving particularly juicy.

Appearing on an episode of Jake Shane‘s podcast Therapuss just two months ago, Duff discussed her “talent” for knowing when it’s time to part ways with a mate, which sort of links up to Tisdale’s claims in the now-infamous essay about being ghosted by a certain mum group.

“I’ve always had a really good gauge with people — I think it’s, like, a little talent that I have really good friends and it doesn’t take me long to figure someone out [and] figure out if someone’s not for me,” she said, noting she’s the “mum of [her] friend groups”.

Describing friend breakups as “worse than a breakup breakup”, Duff advised listeners that “you have to own it and be like, ‘I can’t show up for you in this capacity right now. It’s overwhelming. Like, I need some space’.”

Do we know for sure that this is about Ashley Tisdale? No.

However, it lowkey ties with Duff’s hubby Matthew Koma’s savage as hell clap-back to The Cut article, where he shared a fake interview with the headline: “When you’re the most self-obsessed tone-deaf person on earth, other mums tend to shift focus to their actual toddlers.”

The crux of Duff’s argument is that if a friendship becomes too “overwhelming”, it’s time to call it quits — which certainly fits with Koma describing Tisdale as behaving childlike and requiring too much attention from her friends.

This isn’t the only intriguing shred of media to resurface in the wake of the mum group drama. An episode of the Big Names podcast — hosted by ex-Disney gals Anneliese van der Pol and Christy Carlson Romano — has also been doing the rounds, in which theThat’s So Raven star describes an “uncomfortable” interaction with Tisdale.

In the August 2023 episode, van der Pol recalled serving Tisdale while working as a waitress.

“I want to say she was lovely, but…” van der Pol said, before sipping her cocktail.

The actress — who worked at New York City’s Salvation Burger, Salvation Taco and Tavern on the Green for “about a year” after struggling post-Disney — explained that Tisdale did not react by saying, “Oh, my God! Hi!”

She described Tisdale as being visibly “uncomfortable”, so much so that she was tempted to tell the High School Musical star: “I’m fine, girl. I’m actually really happy that I don’t have to audition and am doing something I know I’m good at. I know when I clean a table or bring a meal that I can do that and there won’t be any mistakes.”

Speaking of Christy Carlson Romano, the actress — who starred alongside Hilary Duff in the iconic Disney flick Cadet Kelly — is one of many Hollywood stars to have put their two cents in on the sitch (oh, she also voiced Kim Possible), and I implore you to read it.
