Spice Girls singer Mel B has paid tribute to her "beautiful" and "honest" fiancé following their surprise engagement last month.
The 47-year-old is due to say "I do" after boyfriend Rory McPhee popped the question while the couple was on a romantic getaway in Berkshire. Leeds hairdresser Rory, reportedly got down on one knee with a £100,000 pear-shaped diamond ring, after three years of dating.
The mum-of-three told Hello magazine that they had just been on a walk around the grounds of luxury country hotel Cliveden House and she got a "funny feeling" when Rory said he'd go put the fire on. When she walked through the door a few moments later, he asked her to marry him.
Mel said: "For the first time in my life, I'm engaged to a beautiful, honest person who makes me feel protected, nurtured and so loved, and I want to savour that."
She also revealed that her former bandmates Mel C and Emma Bunton burst into tears when she told them about her engagement. Knowing her friends are supportive of their union means the world to the Leeds singer, especially as they "never liked" Mel's previous boyfriends.
Mel said: "They were actually pushing me towards Rory for ages before the two of us became romantic, but I'd say to them, 'It's not like that; he's just a really good friend who makes me feel safe."
During an episode of Celebrity Gogglebox, she told her friend Ruby Wax about Rory's beautiful proposal speech. Ruby asked: "You told me you got engaged the other day, and so my question is, what did he actually say?"
Mel responded: "I love you, you're my best friend, I want to spend the rest of my life with you." She added: "There were roses everywhere, a log fire, hotel..."
Mel B's eldest daughter Phoenix, 23, was the first person to be told the happy news.
