Spectre star Lea Seydoux was "sad" Bond was bought by Amazon, but had a change of heart when Denis Villeneuve signed on: "At least it's him, so it will be cinema"

Former Bond girl Lea Seydoux wasn't stoked about Amazon acquiring MGM, but she has full faith in director Denis Villeneuve.

"I was a bit sad when I heard that it was sold [to Amazon MGM], but now that it's Denis, I was like, 'Oh, at least it's him, so it will be cinema,'" Seydoux told Variety.

Seydoux starred as Dr. Madeleine Swann in Spectre and No Time to Die, making her the franchise's last Bond girl until casting starts up for Villeneuve's upcoming film. Madeleine has a baby with James Bond, and she, along with love interest Sylvia Trench, are the only two Bond girls to appear in more than one franchise film.

In 2025, longtime producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli sold creative control over to Amazon for $20 million, causing franchise fans to spiral into something of a panic. We all took a collective deep breath, however, when it was announced Villeneuve would direct the new pic, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight set to pen the script. Casting is currently underway, and it looks like Aaron Taylor-Johnson is officially out of the running. The studio reportedly wants a younger Bond, with the only requirement being that he has to be English or something like it (Australian actor Jacob Elordi is being considered as a frontrunner).

The upcoming, untitled James Bond movie is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2028. For more on 007, check our guide to the best James Bond movies, or see the best Prime Video movies to add to your watchlist right now.
