Days after the Supreme Court gave interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the alleged liquor scam case, Home Minister Amit Shah has taken a dig at the judgement, saying it is “not a routine judgement” and a “lot of people believe” that “special treatment” was given.
The BJP leader was speaking to news agency ANI when he remarked at the top court’s judgement, slammed Kejriwal’s claims about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “retirement” and also hinted at the controversy surrounding AAP MP Swati Maliwal.
On granting interim bail to Kejriwal till June 1 for election campaign, the top court had said it considers the “facts of each case” and that “this case is “not an exception”. It had also noted that “the appellant, Arvind Kejriwal, is the Chief Minister of Delhi and a leader of one of the national parties.”
Since his release on May 10, the Delhi CM has been targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP. He claimed that Modi was set to retire before turning 75 years of age next year in adherence to the BJP constitution.
During the interview, Shah countered the claim, saying, “PM Modi will remain till 2029, and Arvind Kejriwal I have bad news for you...even after 2029 PM Modi will lead us.”
On the question of whether the Delhi CM’s return will give a boost to the INDIA bloc, Shah said, “Right now he is stuck in another issue, let him get free from that then let’s see what happens.” He was purportedly hinting at the allegations of alleged physical assault of Maliwal at the Delhi CM house.
On May 13, days after Kejriwal’s release from Tihar Jail, media reports cited Delhi police sources and claimed that Maliwal had called the cops from the CM house, alleging physical assault by Kejriwal’s aide. Maliwal herself has not made any statements to the media.
