SPECIAL DELIVERY: Nike and eBay’s new Sandy Bodecker dunk would be great if it wasn’t so gimmicky

The story of Sandy Bodecker and the creation of Nike SB is one that will permeate sneaker culture forever.

Bodecker was truly a pioneer in the sense that he made skateboarding stick with Nike in the early 2000s. He did it in a way no one could. So it makes perfect sense to honor him with the sneaker that defines his legacy.

Nike’s eBay Dunk — originally released in 2003 — is the stuff of legends. It’s one of the rarest SB Dunks ever and Bodecker is the only one officially known to own the original auctioned-off pair.

To honor Bodecker’s legend, Nike and eBay partnered together to retro the Dunk that started it all. And the storytelling behind it is something that should be appreciated.

I just wish the shoe itself could be appreciated in the same way. But it feels way too gimmicky to do so.

We explain why on the latest episode of Special Delivery. Tap in.
