Spec-taco-lar effort from Lanarkshire's Great British Bake Off contestant on show's Mexican Week

Last night saw another solid performance in the Great British Bake Off tent for Lanarkshire teacher Kevin Flynn.

The Hamilton baker put in a spec-taco-lar effort to impress the judges and sail through the hit show's Mexican Week.

But he now remains the last Scot in the competition after a rare double elimination knocked out fellow contestants James from Glasgow, and Rebs.

Kevin, originally from Motherwell, thought he'd came close to a highly-coveted Hollywood handshake from judge Paul Hollywood during episode five's signature challenge.

But despite high praise for his pan dulces, including Dame Prue Leith noting "these are the best we've tasted", Kevin had to make do with the compliments alone.

The 33-year-old said on the show he thought he was going to get a handshake before joking that Paul was "a stingy git".

Onto last night's technical challenge, and the 10 remaining contestants were tasked with making a dozen steak tacos.

Kevin rustled up a tasty tray-full, earning him a good fourth place before heading into the final round.

This week's Showstopper demanded a tres leches cake which had to be soaked in different kinds of milk.

The local teacher named his 'Kevin's Mexi-Cocoa-Pyramid' as his layers were topped with chocolate fire bowls, caramel hazelnut spikes with a coffee and vanilla sponge.

It went down a treat but Kevin still had to survive some critics on his flour and flavours.

Talented Kevin has been baking since he was 17, but he also teaches and performs music, mainly on saxophone, as well as flute, piano and clarinet.

Going into this year's Bake Off, he said he's looking to utilise his "good command of flavours and technique" and think on his feet if something goes wrong.

He now hopes to make many people in his community proud during his time on the show.

Kevin told Lanarkshire Live : "It feels great to be representing my local community on The Great British Bake Off. Lots of my friends and family are already fans of the show, and I hope I've brought the joy of the show a bit closer to home.

"So many people have gotten in touch with me to wish me the best and to have a laugh at my facial expressions and mishaps! I feel really well-supported.

Kevin looks forward to his fifth week in this year's Bake Off tent which will be screened on Tuesday, October 11.

Next week the bakers will take on Desserts Week.
