Spanish media claim Real Madrid are already plotting a move for Man City striker Erling Haaland

Spanish media outlet AS are reporting that Real Madrid are already eyeing up a move for Erling Haaland, just days after his arrival at the Etihad Stadium was officially confirmed.

Madrid have already been left licking their wounds this transfer window after missing out on the signature of Kylian Mbappe after he agreed to sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain. They were also thought to be keen on Haaland, however, Los Blancos were beaten to his signature by City.

Earlier this week, Madrid's president Florentino Perez criticised City's deal for the Norwegian, adding that Haaland would only make the bench if he were to move to the Bernabeu. However, Spanish media outlet AS now claim Real are already planning to make a move for the youngster in two years' time.

According to the report, Real see Haaland as the perfect replacement for Karim Benzema. They claim that Madrid had asked Haaland to stay a further year at Borussia Dortmund before making the switch to La Liga, but his 'determination' to leave this year led to him signing for City.

It is claimed by AS that there is a €150m release clause in Haaland's contract which he inserted as he 'wishes' to play for Madrid at some point in the future. Upon his arrival at the Etihad, the 21-year-old explained his delight to be playing for the Blues next season.

He said: "This is a proud day for me and my family. I have always watched City and have loved doing so in recent seasons.

"You can’t help but admire their style of play, it’s exciting and they create a lot of chances, which is perfect for a player like me. There are so many world-class players in this squad and Pep [Guardiola] is one of the greatest managers of all time, so I believe I am in the right place to fulfil my ambitions.

"I want to score goals, win trophies and improve as a footballer and I am confident I can do that here. This is a great move for me and I can’t wait to get started in pre-season."
