Spain will be looking to make an instant impact in Group E when they face a Costa Rica side looking to avoid crashing out of the group stages again. Luis Enrique's team are drawn with Germany and Japan too making their group a reasonable contender for the group of death at the 2022 FIFA World Cup - a winning start will be perfect for his side to get momentum going.
La Roja are the favourites at 2/11 with Betfred while Costa Rica are 16/1 while a draw is 6/1. This will be the fourth time the two sides will meet but the first time at the FIFA World Cup with all three previous matches being friendlies with Spain picking up two wins a draw.
Enrique will be keen to see how his young squad do on the main stage with the likes of Ansu Fati, Nico Williams, Gavi and Pedri - all under 21 - looking to make an impact on the main stage with the experienced Sergio Busquets leading his country in his fourth World Cup.
Costa Rica, in their third successive World Cup and sixth overall, will be looking to be a surprise package once again. A disappointing 2018 saw them crash out of the group stage after facing Serbia, Brazil and Switzerland in Russia after a brilliant 2014 where they went on to the quarter-finals - their best ever finish in the competition.
