Spain's Covid booster jab entry requirement for all holidaymakers explained

Brits holidaying in Spain could need Covid boosters to enter the sunny travel hotspot this summer.

Jabbed travellers can bypass testing with the right proof of vaccination on hand.

It comes as the country opened its doors to non-vaccinated travellers for the first time ever since the pandemic began.

The changing rules are indicative of the times as countries relax some restrictions to boost travel while sometimes maintaining key rules on jabs.

For example, tourists entering the UK don't need a vaccine certificate, but British citizens have been warned to meet Spanish authorities' validity period requirements.

The Foreign Office has advised Brits exactly when they'll need a booster to enter Spain.

Fortunately, vaccinated travellers don't need to test unlike those who haven't gotten their jabs.

At least 14 days must have passed since being fully vaccinated (with both doses of a 2-dose vaccine or one dose of a single-dose vaccine) before your arrival in Spain.

Kids are one exception - children under 12 don't need to be fully vaccinated to enter.

There is a '270-day rule' for Covid vaccinations which acts as an 'expiry' date for jabs.

The Foreign Office guidance for Spain says: "Your date(s) of vaccination must be specified and your final dose must have been administered within 270 days prior to travel to Spain.

"If you completed your vaccination (with both doses of a 2-dose vaccine or one dose of a single-dose vaccine) more than 270 days prior to travel to Spain, you must be able to show proof of having received a booster jab."

270 days is nine months, so if it's been that long since you've gotten your second jab of Pfizer, Modern or AstraZeneca, you'll need another jab.

As for the waiting period for boosters, it says: "There is no requirement for 14 days to have passed between receiving your booster jab and entering Spain.

"Booster jabs can be administered at any time prior to travel to Spain. There is currently no expiry date for booster jabs."

Permitted vaccines include Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, and Novavax.
