Spain has announced that it will extended its covid entry requirements for travellers entering the country until June.
Passengers arriving from both the UK and EU will need to comply with entry rules — including presenting proof of vaccination of recovery from covid — until June 15.
Everybody flying into Spain via plane will also still need to wear face coverings, even though the European Union Aviation Safety Agency dropped the rule this week..

As reported by the Daily Record, the Spanish Government reportedly made the decision after observing current covid infection rates.
According to new data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the country has registered almost 66,000 cases in the past week.
A Government statement read: "The border order to be issued by the Minister for Home Affairs extends all current restrictions on Spain’s external land, sea, and air borders under the recommendations of the Council of the European Union due to the health crisis caused by COVID-19."
Anybody travelling to Spain should familiarise themselves with the travel rules to ensure they will be permitted entry.
What are the guidelines for UK travellers?
The UK is classed as a 'third country', which means one that falls outside of the European Union.
Travellers from third countries are subject to more strict entry requirements, according to the Ministry.
People from these countries are allowed into Spain for travel purposes only if they possess a vaccination or recovery certificate, or if they are exempt.
However, certain types of travellers can enter Spain under facilitated rules.
Tourists from third countries who are aged between 12 and 18 can enter Spain if they can present a negative PCR test result — and do not require a vaccination or recovery certificate.
Even though its travel rules will be kept in place until next month, Spain has eased other covid restrictions.
The mask mandate in the country was lifted in April, which means that people no longer need to wear a face covering when accessing different public places and events while in Spain.
However, a face covering requirement remains for all people travelling to Spain on a plane, despite European Union Aviation Safety Agency and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control dropping the continent-wide mandate to do so from mid-May.
What are the guidelines for EU travellers?
According to the Ministry of Health Spain, all travellers over the age of 12 from the European Union are required to present Covid-19 proof upon their arrival.
Travellers from the EU/EEA are permitted restriction-free entry as long as they hold one of the passes listed below:
- A vaccination certificate that proves that the holder has completed primary vaccination in the last nine months. Certificates proving that the holder received a booster shot are also accepted
- A recovery certificate that proves that the holder tested positive for the virus in the last six months
- A test certificate that proves that the holder took a PCR or rapid antigen test within 72 or 48 hours before arrival in Spain, respectively
