Spain Covid travel rules to remain in force for British holidaymakers

Covid-19 regulations for holidaymakers travelling to Spain will remain in place until at least mid-November.

The entry rules for the popular European destination have been extended to November 15. These rules, which apply to anyone over the age of 12, include showing proof of vaccination when you arrive in the country, as well as proof of booster jabs if it has been 270 days or more since your second Covid vaccine.

Travellers who are unvaccinated, meanwhile, must provide either a negative Covid test (PCR or lateral flow) or proof of having recovered from Covid in the last six months. While these rules will continue to apply, Spain has lifted one element of its entry requirements.

Days after confirming that restrictions would remain in place, Spain announced that visitors will no longer need to complete a health control form to get into the country, DerbyshireLive reports . These forms were previously required from travellers who could not show proof of full vaccination or recovery from Covid.

A statement from Spain's Ministry of Health said: "As of Tuesday, 20 September 2022, the Spain Travel Health (SpTH) portal, both the website and the mobile applications (APPs), will no longer be operational. It will no longer be necessary to complete the health control form to travel to Spain nor to show the SpTH QR code at the airport of arrival."

However, Spain’s Ministry of Health underlined that all travellers from non- EU countries - including the UK - must present a vaccination certificate, a negative Covid test result or a recovery certificate when they are visiting the country. These are the restrictions that will remain in place until at least mid-November.

The Ministry said: "Passengers (except for children under the age of 12 and those in international transit) arriving from countries that do not belong to the European Union or are NOT considered Schengen associated countries must show an EU Digital Covid Certificate or EU equivalent to the SpTH QR, in order to pass the health controls on arrival in Spain."
