SpaceX is facing $633,000 in fines for alleged safety violations during two Florida launches last year, as reported by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA has proposed civil penalties due to SpaceX's alleged failure to adhere to licensing requirements.
During a satellite launch in June 2023, SpaceX reportedly used a new launch control room without prior approval and failed to conduct the required readiness poll two hours before the launch, according to the FAA. Additionally, one month later, SpaceX launched another communication satellite using a new rocket fuel facility that had not yet been approved by federal regulators.
The FAA emphasized that safety is a top priority in overseeing commercial space activities. FAA's Marc Nichols stated, 'Safety drives everything we do at the FAA. Failure of a company to comply with safety requirements will result in consequences.'
SpaceX has been given 30 days to respond to the FAA regarding the proposed fines. As of now, SpaceX has not provided any comments on the matter.
Safety and compliance with regulations are crucial aspects of space launches, and regulatory bodies like the FAA play a vital role in ensuring the safety of space missions.
