JAIPUR: Southwest monsoon is likely to enter Rajasthan in the next 3 to 4 days as conditions are becoming favourable for its onset. However, there was no respite from the sultry heat conditions as the majority of the places witnessed its maximum temperatures above the normal notch.
By Thursday some places in Eastern Rajasthan are likely to get the season's first monsoon rainfall. Jalore remained hottest in the state with a maximum temperature of 46.2 °C, the Met reports said.
The Jaipur Met office on Sunday stated that since westerly winds are dampened, conditions are now favourable for the onset of the monsoon. "With the progress of the monsoon many places are likely to get lightning and thunderstorms from Tuesday. Many places are likely to get dust storms and moderate rainfall on Wednesday," said an officer with the Jaipur Met office on the progress of the monsoon.
Jaipur Met office in its forecast stated that pre-monsoon showers will revive in the state from Monday. Many places in Udaipur and Kota division are likely to get heavy rainfall in the next few days. Districts including Baran, Jhalawar, Kota, Banswara, Chittorgarh, Udaipur are likely to get heavy rains in next couple of days.
Authorities stated that though the southwest monsoon is delayed but its progress on Sunday was better as cyclonic circulation was witnessed in the Bay of Bengal on Sunday. "Gujarat has already received southwest monsoon and its progression has initially stalled. Thus, in the next three to four days Rajasthan can expect the arrival of the monsoon especially in the eastern Rajasthan," said Radhey Shyam Sharma, Director, Jaipur Met office.
Scorching heat conditions prevailed at almost every part of the state as maximum temperatures were above 40.0 °C and minimum temperatures were above 30.0 °C and above.
People in Jaipur woke up to a warm morning as a minimum temperature of 30.7 °C was recorded in the city. Jalore was followed by Jaisalmer where a maximum temperature of 45.5 °C was recorded.
