A former care home in Sefton could soon be transformed into a guesthouse after plans were approved.
Galtee More at Bank Square in Southport is a Victorian-era villa which operated as a nursing home until its closure in 2021.
Earlier this year, a planning application was submitted to Sefton Council by Base Properties Ltd, which also run serviced apartments in Liverpool city centre, to transform the terrace into an 11-bedroom guesthouse.

The building, which dates back to the late 1800s is just around the corner from the main stretch at Lord Street, sitting at the heart of the promenade conservation area in the town.
A planning officer’s report released this week said the plans would require no external changes and only “minor” internal changes to accommodate the new use, with the floor plan remain “largely unchanged.”
Officer said given this, no damage would be caused to the heritage area by the change of use.
As long as guests are made aware of the “presence and importance of European designated sites” for migrating birds in the vicinity to help mitigate the impact of “recreational pressure” officers said the plans were an acceptable use for the building and could be approved, meaning a new guesthouse could soon be coming to the seaside town.
