Southmead Hospital to close two mental health wards as 'cramped' provision relocated

Southmead Hospital Brislington

Two mental health wards at Southmead Hospital are set to close - but the care will be provided in another part of Bristol.

The inpatient care currently provided at Oakwood and Mason wards at Southmead will move to a mental health hospital in Brislington, if the plans are approved by the Government.

The old-fashioned wards at Southmead Hospital do not meet current standards so patients will benefit from more modern facilities at Callington Road Hospital, a local health committee heard yesterday (Wednesday, January 26).
