Southall fire: 70 firefighters tackle huge blaze at west London church

At the height of the blaze, most of the ground floor, second floor and roof were alight - (London Fire Brigade)

A fire broke out in Southall, west London on Sunday night, partially destroying a church.

At around 9.30pm, the London Fire Brigade said it received “over 20 calls” reporting a blaze engulfing parts of the King’s Hall Methodist Church in Southall.

Ten fire engines and 70 firefighters were deployed to the scene on South Road in Southall.

“At the height of the fire, most of the ground floor, second floor and roof were alight,” the fire brigade said.

Crews from Southall, Ealing and Heston were deployed, and firefighters used two 32-metre turntable ladders to control the flames from above.

West London locals were advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke in the area.

The blaze was under control by 12.30am, but crews remained on scene into the early morning to fully extinguish the fire.
