South West asbestos removal business expands with deal for Bristol firm

A South West asbestos removal contractor has expanded its operations into the Bristol area after acquiring a competitor.

Gwella Contracting Services, which is headquartered in Cornwall, has acquired Aspire Environmental, an SME specialising in demolition-related asbestos removal, for an undisclosed sum.

The agreement sees Gwella, which describes itself as the the largest company of its kind in the region, add to its portfolio, which includes bases in Redruth, Plymouth and Wellington in Somerset.

It comes as the expanding firm continues a growth plan which has seen it increase its workforce from two directors in 2019 to now more than 100 employees, with the firm saying the Aspire deal would help it create new jobs “across the board”, including operative and managerial positions.

The firm said the move would help consolidate its current Bristol resources with Aspire's team in Warmley, South Gloucestershire, to create a regional hub serving the West of England and Wales.

With the deal Paul Foster, managing director of Aspire, will work within Gwella as the regional director. The businessman, who has over 30 years of experience in the industry, said he was “excited” about the deal, adding: “Joining forces will allow me to focus more on meeting customer requirements, whilst opening doors to new opportunities that only a larger, ISO accredited company such as Gwella can commit to.”

Managing director Kevin Webb added:“Paul Foster has built a carefully managed business over the years, working with some really great customers. We want to build upon the service that he delivers by offering our extensive resources and expertise. Bristol is a key region for our expansion and we’re looking forward to delivering Gwella’s quality services to Aspire’s customers, whilst building new relationships with other businesses.”
