South Korea’s deadly heatwave claims more victims as temperature records broken

  • South Korea is experiencing an extreme heatwave, which has resulted in at least 21 fatalities.
  • Seoul recorded temperatures up to 39.5C, with an unofficial station hitting 40.0C, while the national record of 42.5C was set in Yangsan.
  • President Lee Jae Myung has ordered ministries to commit all available resources, and Seoul has suspended construction work and cancelled outdoor events under its highest heat warning.
