South Africa has presented its case against Israel for genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), as confirmed by a statement from South Africa’s presidency on Monday. The submission, which remains confidential, comprises over 750 pages of evidence along with more than 4,000 pages of supporting exhibits and annexes.
In December, South Africa accused Israel of breaching international genocide laws during its conflict in Gaza and has urged the court to intervene to halt the hostilities. The evidence put forth alleges that Israel has violated the Genocide Convention by actively contributing to the destruction of Palestinian lives in Gaza through the use of lethal weaponry, obstructing humanitarian aid, and causing physical harm.
Israel has vehemently denied the accusations made by South Africa, labeling them as an inappropriate exploitation of the Genocide Convention. Israel maintains that the ongoing conflict in Gaza is a complex and sorrowful situation that necessitates a deeper understanding to grasp the full context.
