Sophie Wessex to take on raft of Queen's old roles after becoming 'second daughter'

Sophie Wessex was a firm favourite of the Queen’s and as a parting gift from Her Majesty, she has been handed numerous royal patronages.

The 57-year-old was viewed upon as a second daughter and trusted confidante by Elizabeth II. And now the Countess of Wessex looks to have been earmarked to take over several of the Queen’s roles, including the Women’s Institute and Dogs Trust.

Sophie was in Manchester on Thursday (September 15), with husband Prince Edward, greeting well-wishers as they offered their warmest condolences. And it was this affectionate side of the countess that appealed to the Queen, reports the Mirror.
