Shortly after the announcement that he's expecting his first child with girlfriend Kelly Piquet, Max Verstappen took his infamous quote — "It's an opportunity... to sell" — quite literally and launched a line of baby merch.
The pair, who have been dating since 2020, said they "couldn’t be happier" with their "little miracle" in a joint Instagram post confirming the news (below).
"Mini Verstappen-Piquet on the way," they wrote alongside a snap of the Brazilian model's baby bump.
Almost immediately after congratulatory messages began pouring in, Verstappen added a new collection to his website featuring baby onesies and a tiny racing suit. "For parents who are as passionate about racing as Max, there's the unique line of Max Verstappen baby items," the description read.
The new baby and toddler line (a missed opportunity to call it Baby Formula, no?) also features three-piece sets containing a tiny hat, bib and socks, along with a scarf, sweatpants and winter jacket.
The timely rollout could have something to do with the fast-approaching holiday season: several items are described as "perfect gifts" and the Red Bull driver is even selling Verstappen-branded Christmas ornaments. "Perfect for decorating your tree in style," the site reads.
When asked about the news in the Abu Dhabi paddock, the 27-year-old said he was looking forward to parenthood. "I'm already kind of a bonus dad," he said, referring to Piquet's daughter Penelope. "But I'm still very excited for sure." Meanwhile, Piquet took to her Instagram Story to thank fans for their kind words and share a sweet message.
"I understand how these announcements can be challenging for those who are longing for a child," she wrote. "While such news is often a joyous occasion, it can also evoke feelings of sadness, frustration or longing in those who are struggling with this. If that’s you, I’m sending all my love, my deepest hugs and magic your way."
The couple's mini-me will have seven world championships in their lineage as Kelly is the daughter of three-time champ, Nelson Piquet. She was previously in a relationship with Daniil Kvyat, who was replaced at Red Bull by Verstappen in 2016, and the pair co-parent 5-year-old Penelope.
When Verstappen's baby arrives in 2025, he will join the very small crew of dads on the grid, including Audi-bound Nico Hülkenberg and his teammate, Sergio Pérez.
