One of the key pieces to Sony’s mirrorless success is the speed made possible by the world’s largest sensor manufacturer’s stacked designs. But while Sony makes stacked sensors for full-frame mirrorless and stacked one-inch sensors in cameras like the RX10 V and RX100 VII, Sony’s APS-C mirrorless lineup skips the layered sensor built for speed.
Fresh reports are circulating that Sony’s sensor division is working on a 26MP APS-C stacked sensor. While Sony has yet to confirm the existence of such technology, the report is fanning the flames of rumors for potential new cameras such the Sony A6900 or a cinema-grade APS-C camera like the Sony FX30 II.
