Sony has unveiled the official trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of the beloved children's book, 'Harold and the Purple Crayon.' Directed by Carlos Saldanha, the movie stars Zachary Levi and Zooey Deschanel in leading roles.

The storyline of the film closely follows the narrative of the original 1955 book by Crockett Johnson. The protagonist, Harold, portrayed by Zachary Levi, possesses the unique ability to bring his imagination to life using a purple crayon.

Joining Levi and Deschanel in the cast are talented actors Lil Rel Howery, Ravi Patel, Camille Guaty, Tanya Reynolds, and Pete Gardner, adding depth to the ensemble.

Carlos Saldanha, known for his work in animated films such as 'Ice Age,' 'Rio,' 'Ferdinand,' and 'Robots,' makes his debut as a live-action director with 'Harold and the Purple Crayon.'

The journey to bring this adaptation to the big screen has been a long one. Development efforts date back to 1992 when Wild Things Productions first attempted to kickstart the project. Notable names like Henry Selick and Michael Tolkin were initially involved, but the project faced setbacks over the years.

Sony Pictures took the reins in 2010, breathing new life into the production. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on August 2, promising an enchanting experience for audiences of all ages.
