Eagle-eyed observers have noted a new filing in Japan for a PlayStation 5 model update, titled the CFI-1200. It was submitted to Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications due to having updated radio equipment which needs to pass certain guidelines.
As noted on Twitter and reported by VGC, this is not a PS5 Pro or anything of the sort. The redesign could be to help make the PS5 cheaper to make, or easier with the ongoing global shortage of components thanks to COVID and crypto. For the average user, there’ll be no difference between this and a launch PS5. However, if it makes it easier to get your hands on one when you want one, it’s an excellent thing for everyone.
VGC notes that CFI-1XXX were launch PS5s, while CFI-11XX were a revision in 2021. This being CFI-12XX suggests a similar situation. Given that, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to tell the difference visually between these and any other PS5.
