BBC's religious programme, Songs of Praise, will film its Christmas special in Cardiff this year, with the aid of Welsh singer, Katherine Jenkins. The ever-popular show has also announced that admission to the event will be free.
Filming will take place at Llandaff Cathedral in the city, with recordings on Tuesday, September 27 and Wednesday, September 28 from 6.30pm to 9.30pm on both evenings to record two special programmes for the festive season. Singer and a presenter of the show, Aled Jones, will be hosting a programme of carols for Christmas Day, while presenter Sean Fletcher will present the New Year's Day episode.
The pair will be joined by an array of guests. Aled is set to perform alongside Russell Watson and there will be performances from Katherine Jenkins, Brenda Edwards and Songs of Praise Gospel Singer of the Year, Patrice Campbell. Meanwhile, Llandaff Cathedral Choir will be leading the carol signing for the Christmas Day episode and the Welsh male voices of the Morriston Orpheus Choir will take centre stage for New Year.
In a statement published on Thursday, a spokesperson for Songs of Praise said: "As always, it's the congregation who will be the stars of the show and the Songs of Praise Team are inviting enthusiastic singers to come along and raise the roof with their festive hymn-singing."
