Somvati Amavasya 2026: Date, timings, significance, do's and don'ts to seek ancestors' blessings

amavasya Shiva

Somvati Amavasya 2026: Somvati Amavasya holds a special place in Hindu traditions and is considered one of the most sacred Amavasya observances of the year. The occasion becomes even more significant when Amavasya falls on a Monday (Somvar), a day dedicated to Lord Shiva. Devotees across India observe fasts, perform rituals for their ancestors, take holy dips in sacred rivers, and engage in charitable activities to seek divine blessings and spiritual merit.

In 2026, Somvati Amavasya will be observed on June 15. The day is regarded as highly auspicious for honoring departed ancestors, performing Pitru Tarpan, and praying for peace, prosperity, and freedom from past karmic burdens.
