A southern Kentucky city is getting some extra publicity from multiple films being shot there.
Leslie Ikerd, the executive director of See Somerset Tourism, said one movie was filmed there in February and another is underway.
“It's just been a learning process. But once we once we got going after a few days in a few locations, you know, we put out an extra call and had like, 300, and couple days and so the community really grasped onto this.”
Ikerd said the first movie, “Christmas At The Amish Bakery” and the one being filmed now will be shown on the cable channel, “Lifetime.” With four more slated to be shot there this year, the city and county may be headed towards an unprecedented spotlight.
“I think it's an incredible opportunity for Somerset to be able to be showcased. And again, a different lens. We promote Like Cumberland, we have over 4 million visitors a year. So we're known for that. We don't have to try too hard to continue to promote that; people know about us for that.”
Ikerd said the recent downtown revitalization plan has the city looking great and a mural reading, “I Love Somerset” will be seen in the movie being shot now.
