'Someone told me' - Divock Origi reflects on Liverpool career as prediction comes true

Divock Origi has admitted his experiences as a Liverpool player will remain special to him for the rest of his life as he edges closer to the Anfield exit door.

The Belgian forward was at the home of the Reds for one final time on Sunday afternoon for the visit of Wolves, though was unable to play any part in the fixture due to an injury sustained earlier in the week. Despite being unable to get onto the pitch, Origi was given a guard of honour by the rest of the team after the full-time whistle.

After arriving at the club from Lille in 2014, the 27-year-old will depart on a free transfer this summer after providing supporters with countless unforgettable moments in a Liverpool shirt. A banner reading 'Football without Origi is nothing' was displayed in the Kop as the forward made his way out of the players' tunnel, making clear just how well-respected he is among the fanbase.

VERDICT: What Wolves fans sang at Anfield shows they're missing the point about Liverpool

PLAYER RATINGS: Alisson excellent and Thiago immense against Wolves

Reflecting on his career at the club after the Reds' win over Wolves, Origi told Sky Sports : "It's an unbelievable club. It goes beyond what I could expect. When you experience it, that's when you realise how big this club is, how unbelievable the people are, the atmosphere and the Champions League nights, going to AXA Training Centre, the people and the players. It has been a joy.

"When I signed, I knew it was a special club. Someone told me 'Divock, it is a special club but you have to experience it'. It's like being at Anfield, you need to experience it. It is something I will keep with me for the rest of my life.

"I am always trying to put the team first and trying to be the best Divock I can be. I try to help the team as much as I can and trust the coach will make the right decisions. I want to be on the pitch every single minute but, even more than that, I want to win. We have an unbelievable group and we achieved so many great things. Hopefully there is one more important game where we can achieve a little bit more."

Origi could only watch on at Anfield as Jurgen Klopp's side missed out on claiming the Premier League title this afternoon, but believes the squad can still be proud of the season they have delivered. "We can very proud and take this experience and, as a team, keep building on it. We want to finish off the season on a very big high," he added.
