Someone Has Your Name, Phone Number and Address — Here’s What They Can Do With It

What scammers can do with your personal information
A scammer who knows your name, phone number, and address may use those details to create convincing impersonation scams or search for additional personal information. Free credit freezes, stronger account security, and data broker opt-outs can help reduce the risk.

Imagine receiving a phone call from someone who knows your full name, home address, and telephone number. They sound professional, mention your neighborhood, and claim there’s an urgent problem with an account or delivery. Because they already know so much about you, it’s tempting to assume the call must be legitimate.

Unfortunately, those three pieces of information are often easier to obtain than people realize. Public records, online directories, data brokers, and information exposed in data breaches can all help strangers assemble a surprisingly detailed picture of someone’s life.
