Some of the newest Nottingham businesses to open this year

Nottingham has an amazing selection of shops, restaurants and bars which make it a great city to spend time in. Thankfully, as restrictions eased last year, it paved the way for a new wave of businesses to open in 2022.

So far this year, we have had lots of independent stores, markets, world-famous restaurants and quirky shops open across the city centre and further afield. If you are looking for a new place to try or starting your Christmas shopping early, then we've made a list of a few that have opened this year.

Popeyes

Upper Parliament Street

The American chicken chain restaurant will open its newest location on Upper Parliament Street on Saturday, October 1. The fast food restaurant took over the former Burger King premises offering their world-famous chicken sandwich.

It's not just about the chicken though as the menu also boasts vegan and vegetarian options. There is also a range of tasty milkshakes, fries and sundaes to choose from.

Bustler Market

Sneinton Market

Bustler Market will open officially from Friday, September 30 after much excitement from Nottingham's foodie fans. The team behind the street food business already has a popular location in Derby.

The location in Sneinton Avenues combines the best in street food traders with a pop-up bar, DJs and ample amounts of seating. Traders will rotate weekly offering the very best in local food businesses such as Prad Thai and Elcapos Pizza. The bar also makes a strong cocktail with favourites such as the tequila-based Classy Paloma.

Veggie Masters

Lenton Boulevard

This is a bit further out than the city centre as its in Lenton but worth a trip if you are veggie or vegan. The entire menu, which is impressively extensive, is plant-based. It means no awkward conversations around finding meat-free options.

The menu has everything that you could possibly want including wraps, pasta, salads, burgers or chips. Veggie Masters have locations across the UK but this is the only one in Nottingham. It's so good that people had been known to drive to Derby to get their hands on the signature Southern Fried 'chicken' pieces.

Mint Duck

Middle Pavement Street

Nottingham's newest designer store opened on the Bridlesmith Gate in August with a collection of clothes for men and children. A treasure trove of premium clothing brands, it stocks Lacoste and Gant along with Nottingham label Sauce and Brown and the boxer Leigh Wood's brand, Margatsni.

The store plans to host VIP nights where customers will be able to have a drink or two while viewing the latest trends and play a round of pool on the new white pool table. It's a great place to pick up a truly unique piece.

Still Together

Cobden Chambers

Cobden Chambers has had a transformation in recent months as new businesses take over the empty shops and floors of Cobden Place. Still Together is the latest shop to open its doors to the public on the quirky side street just off Pelham Street.

The independent shop has a range of hand-printed unique T-shirts, vintage clothing and jewelry. It's worth popping in to see the unusual selection of eye-catching sunglasses which are some of the owner's best-selling items.

Stick and Ribbon

Bridlesmith Gate

Stick and Ribbon have been serving the women of Nottingham for years but this year marked their first on the high street store so it technically counts. The eye-catching bright blue shop can be found on Bridlesmith Gate in among several new businesses including Barista Lab.

If you haven't been to Stick and Ribbon then it's worth popping in for a bit of a nose around the well-chosen clothing collection and get a bit of fashion advice from the team. They are known for their excellent selection of jeans and denim items.

Textile Guru Clothing

Sneinton Market

Textile Guru is a hidden gem for anyone interested in sustainable shopping or making their own garments. It's a one-stop shop for interesting fabrics and sewing pieces with expert advice available from the team. The bright yellow shop is hard to miss in Snienton but it's a great spot for hunting down unique designs and getting inspiration.

It's the sister shop for Get Crooked which already has a location on Sneinton Avenues with its range of eye-catching, festival-ready clothing. The shop will be offering sewing workshops or classes where you can pick up a new skill and learn to make your clothes or mend your existing ones.

Cake Box

Sneinton Dale

Who doesn't enjoy a good cake from time to time? Cake Box sells single slices of their amazing egg-free cakes for £4 each so if you don't fancy an entire cake to yourself then you are in luck.

There are Cake Box shops across the UK but the Nottingham branch is lucky number 200. There is already a store in Hyson Green but this is the closest to the city centre as it's just a walk into Sneinton. While there is a huge selection of tasty treats to choose from, the red velvet cake is a particular favorite.

Punch Coffee

Mansfield Road

Mansfield Road is a bit of a one-stop shop for everything you could possibly need from alcohol to haircuts but it was missing one thing, a decent coffee spot. Punch Coffee opened in September and is already gathering a following for its strong brews and incredible brownies.

The cafe was a dream shared by four friends who relocated to Nottingham during lockdown making the city their home. They have great plans for the brand including the possibility of opening more in the future.

The Beeston Social

Station Road, Beeston

Beeston is becoming a great place to visit if you fancy spending a day outside of the city centre. It has a huge selection of shops, bars, restaurants and markets which make it worth a quick trip on the tram.

The Social opened earlier this year on Station Road offering a laid back cosy atmosphere mixed with good food and drinks. The venue also has air hockey, Guitar Hero, and Sega Rally on offer to entertain children and gamers alike. The venue is also known for strong cocktails including the popular Twister cocktail which tastes just like the well-known ice cream.
