Some food delivery workers for Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat are understood to be staging a two-day strike in Cardiff over a pay dispute. The action began on Friday, January 6, and was said to be continuing on Saturday, January 7. It is understood that the issue concerns workers' claims that they are being paid between £3.40 and £3.70 per delivery exceeding three miles.
The workers have claimed "nobody is hearing their plea" for an increase in pay to help them deal with the rising costs associated with the cost-of-iving crisis. Video footage has shown workers assembled in the centre of Cardiff in St Mary's Street chanting: "Deliveroo and Uber, increase the prices."
Deliveroo has issued a statement to say it has partnered with the GMB Union to guarantee that riders earn the national living wage, plus costs, adding that the vast majority of riders earn significantly more during their duties. Get stories like this straight to your inbox with our newsletters.
