Solomun at Alexandra Palace review: superstar DJ brings summer bliss to wintry London

Solomun is one of the kings of Ibiza, famed for marathon trance sets at the dance paradise. The Bosnian-born artist started out as your favourite DJ’s favourite DJ due to his skilful mash-ups of hip-hop, soul, funk, R&B and dance, but the rest of the world quickly caught on. He regularly draws huge crowds at electronic festivals Ultra, Exit and Tomorrowland and videos of his performances rack up millions of views on YouTube. He also features heavily in Grand Theft Auto Online — the mark of a true icon.

Last year, Solomun played a gorgeous, five-hour set on the banks of the Thames, looking very much in his element as the sun set on a blisteringly hot summer evening. On Saturday night, he returned to a cold, wet February night in the city for the second of two shows at the sometimes-vibeless expanse of Alexandra Palace. Still, it didn’t take long for Solomun to transport the packed room somewhere else entirely.
