Soft Cell’s last album ‘a fitting farewell to Dave Ball’, bandmate says

  • Soft Cell's final studio album, Danceteria , will serve as “a fitting farewell" to the late musician Dave Ball , according to his bandmate Marc Almond .
  • Ball, an electronic music pioneer, passed away in October 2025 at the age of 66, just two days after the record’s completion.
  • The 12-track album marks the synth-pop duo's sixth and last studio effort, commemorating nearly five decades of their musical collaboration.
  • Speaking on the loss of his friend and collaborator, frontman and vocalist Almond said: “There can be no more recordings of Soft Cell without Dave, it would not be possible. The sad reality is that Dave Ball was half of Soft Cell, and live work aside, I can’t write Soft Cell songs without him."
  • Almond said the forthcoming album , scheduled for release on 25 September, “is a love letter to New York in the early 80s”, where the duo recorded their first three albums.
