Social welfare Ireland: Over one million people to receive cash boost today amid rising cost of living

Many people are set to receive a social welfare payment that was announced in Budget 2023 today, October 17.

€1.2 billion was set aside by the Government to help people with the cost of living crisis.

Monday’s payment is the first of a number of social welfare boosts, with others planned in November and December.

A cost of living double payment will be given to those on social welfare today, with 1.4 million people set to receive the bonus.

Pensioners, carers and many others will get the Autumn double welfare payment from the Government.

The Christmas bonus will be paid in the week beginning December 5.

The double pension will see people get €500 next week, or €1,000 for a couple for the week. The same double whammy is planned for December.

The boosts come as the nights begin to get colder, with many facing ever-increasing energy bills in the weeks and months ahead.

On November 1, there will be a double Child Benefit, which will benefit 639,000 families in respect of 1.2 million children.

There will be a number of bonuses on November 14, including a €400 Fuel Allowance lump sum. This will benefit 371,000 people.

Working Family Payment recipients will receive a €500 lump sum on this day, as well as a €200 Living Alone Allowance. This will benefit 234,000 people.

Also on November 14, there will be a €500 Lump sum for those in receipt of Disability Allowance, Invalidity Pension and the Blind Pension.

On November 21, there will be a €500 Lump sum payment for those in receipt of Carer's Support Grant

Finally, the Double Christmas Bonus will come on December 5. It will benefit the same 1.4 million people expected to benefit from the Autumn Double Payment.

Thousands of additional households will benefit from a fuel allowance boost of €400 coming in a matter of weeks as the cost of living crisis continues to bite.

The extra boost will see anyone who qualifies for the fuel allowance receive a total of €1,324 across the winter season as the Government works to help with the skyrocketing cost of heating a home.
