Social welfare Ireland: €100 Fuel Allowance bonus for households to be given in coming days

Irish households eligible for the €100 Fuel Allowance bonus will receive it in the coming days.

In mid-March the Government paid a bonus of €125 and then announced they would pay an additional three weeks' Fuel Allowance to eligible households in May.

It is understood that three extra weekly payments of €33 will be paid this month, in the middle of May.

The bonus has been given as a response to the rising cost of living and around 400,000 households around the country are eligible.

The social welfare payment under the National Fuel Scheme and provides weekly payments of €33 from the end of September until the beginning of April.

Applications remain open for the 2022/2023 bonus. To be eligible, you must meet the criteria listed here.

The Government has also introduced a cut on VAT to tackle Ireland's rising cost of living.

The tax has been slashed from 13.5% to 9% and the cut is in place from May 2, until October 31, 2022.

The cut should result in savings for homeowners of up to €50 on gas and €70 on electricity for the year.
