Millions of Americans receiving Social Security benefits could see a larger increase in their monthly payments next year, with the latest projection pointing to a 3.5% cost-of-living adjustment in 2027 that could add hundreds of dollars to their annual retirement income.

The projected increase would exceed the 2.8% adjustment beneficiaries received in 2026 and would be the largest since 2023. The official figure is expected Wednesday, October 14, following the release of September's inflation data.
