Circati gives Socceroos hope, Irvine to miss qualifiers

Tony Popovic will leave the door open for defender Alessandro Circati to seal an unlikely Socceroos recall as the Australia boss vows to cast a wide net to find a replacement for influential midfielder Jackson Irvine.

Foot surgery will mean the 32-year-old Irvine will miss next month's crunch World Cup qualifiers with Japan in Perth on June 5 and Saudi Arabia in Jeddah on June 11.
