David Beckham hands Soccer Aid trophy to World XI after shootout win

Comedian Lee Mack secured Soccer Aid glory after scoring the winning penalty for the World XI to beat England for a fourth straight year.

The sides drew 2-2 over 90 minutes at the London Stadium in an entertaining match that raised over £15 million for charity Unicef.

Robbie Williams performed at half-time, with a rousing rendition of ‘Angels’, while Unicef ambassador David Beckham presented captain Andriy Shevchenko and Olympic sprint legend Usain Bolt with the trophy after the shoot-out.

Kem Cetinay scored a late equaliser for the World XI to move to the top of the all-time Soccer Aid goalscorers with four.

The Love Island star’s goal pegged back the Three Lions who had led 2-1 after goals from Mark Wright’s penalty and Tom Grennan’s cool finish after rushing through on goal after a neat change of pace.

Harry Redknapp’s side showed great character to lead after the opening goal from the penalty spot from TikTok star Noah Beck for the World XI.

Mack, who had previously represented England in the charity football series, scored the winning spot kick to clinch shoot-out glory 4-1 after a number of misses from England.

The penalty sparked wild celebrations among World XI players, who quickly mobbed the Not Going Out star on the London Stadium pitch.

Mack then vowed to retire from the charity match, wishing to go out on a high with Patrice Evra describing he moment as “destiny”.

“I didn’t touch the ball when I came on, before the shoot-out,” Mack said. “That’s it, that’s definitely it, you [Alex Scott] are playing next year, I’m not.”
