Soaring number of fires at recycling centres blamed on vape batteries

Over ten fires are breaking out at recycling centres across the UK each week due to lithium batteries from devices such as vapes being carelessly disposed of, according to new research.

The figures follow major fires at recycling centres in London last week, including 100 firefighters called out to a mass blaze in Deptford, south east London, the cause of which has yet to be revealed, as well as another fire in Ilford attributed to lithium ion batteries.
