‘So the pink tax’: Indiana women have had enough after discovering tampons were taxed at 7%, while KitKats got a free pass

Women and girls across the state of Indiana are currently fighting back against the 7% sales tax they are facing on all period products, including pads and tampons. After airing a report on the same, the news outlets WDRB and WAVE uploaded a clip onto their TikTok profile, which then kicked up a huge conversation.

In the video, the reporter says, “Indiana is one of 18 states that still taxes period products. Civic Engagement Organization Mad Voters is trying to change that in the Hoosier state. Leaders with the organization say one in four women and girls in Indiana say it’s hard to afford period products. And items like pudding, popsicles, and Kit Kats are tax-free in the state, which is why they created a petition. The organizers say they already have hundreds of signatures but need more so they can take it to state legislators and demand change.”
