'So poor' - Gary Neville's Hugo Lloris verdict after Tottenham star's huge error vs Arsenal

Former Manchester United defender and pundit Gary Neville blamed Hugo Lloris for an error that led to Arsenal taking the lead over Tottenham in the North London Derby on Sunday. It came in the first-half during a high pressure match for both sides that have different ambitions.

For Spurs, their current goal will be reaching top four again, sitting fifth in the Premier League table and chasing those above them. Their form has dipped after an ideal start, leading to some murmurs of discontent, but results across their half of London won't have made things easier.

That's because the Gunners in stark comparison are top of the league, several points clear of Manchester City in second, and eyeing a title charge. However, the big rivalries are often levellers between any two sides, where form goes out of the window and anything can happen.

Last season's match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium proved exactly that, with the Lilywhites taking a 3-1 win to eventually return to the Champions League over their rivals. They would have been hopeful of a repeat, but that wasn't how it started for them, picking up as slowly as they so often have this campaign.

Bukayo Saka's mazy run on the right saw him fire a chance across the box, with Lloris forced into action, but he managed to put the ball in the back of his own net. It was a huge error by the Frenchman in a string of high profile issues the shot-stopper has made as of late.

Discussing the goal on Sky Sports, Neville said: "There’s no doubt Arsenal have been the better side. They just get in down this side, little spin, lovely little run from Saka. Romero in the middle is playing him onside, and then Sessegnon is intent on showing him onto his right foot and he does, and he takes that opportunity.

"There’s a little deflection there I think off Sessegnon which I still think they’ve got to do better at that near post. Watching it here as he kicks it with his right foot I’m pretty certain there’s a deflection and Lloris, that’s just so poor.

"He started shakily with his feet, Lloris, and he’s followed it on now with his hands. Some may say there’s a deflection there that potentially causes him more of a problem, but he has to deal with that. It’s not good enough. For Arsenal they’ve played all their football, they’ve settled into the game. I’m not sure who he’s complaining to."
