Pablo Zabaleta would rather Manchester City lose to Manchester United in the FA Cup final if it meant winning the UEFA Champions League.
Pep Guardiola's side have the chance to win a historic treble after wrapping up the Premier League title. City face United at Wembley on June 3 before travelling to Istanbul a week later.
Inter Milan are their opponents in the Champions League final, a trophy that has eluded City and they are desperate to win, as a result. So much so that Zabaleta would prioritise winning it even if that meant losing to United, when forced to pick between the two.
“Thank you guys, see you tomorrow!" he joked when posed the question by ESPN. "That is so hard. I’m going to answer, but it’s really hard.
"I think the main competition for Manchester City in this moment is the Champions League. They won absolutely everything domestically in the last 10 years. We’ve beaten United many times.
“I always want to win against United. But for me, if I have to choose, come on, the Champions League.”
United will be desperate to ensure City don't get the opportunity to match their feat from 1999. They face Chelsea on Thursday knowing they need a solitary point from their final two Premier League matches to be sure of a top-four finish.
