An SNP councillor has been reported to the Crown Office after he was accused of stealing from a police station.
Allan Stubbs, who represents Coatbridge North on North Lanarkshire Council, allegedly stole property from an office in Motherwell where he works.
The convener of the council’s housing committee works for Police Scotland and is also employed part-time by Coatbridge and Chryston MSP Fulton MacGregor.
A probe was carried out by cops following an allegation with officers from the nation-wide force reporting the councillor to the procurator fiscal.
Stubbs told The Times: "I don’t know what the allegations are that you’re talking about. To be honest my work life and my public life are very separate.
"So I don’t talk about my work to the press, I don’t talk about it as part of my council duties. So I’m not going to talk about anything to do with that, or confirm or deny anything.
"I can tell you categorically I am currently sitting with my uniform on. I am not currently suspended."
A spokesperson from Police Scotland said: "Following an allegation of theft of police property from Motherwell Police Station inquiries were carried out and a report on the circumstances has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal for consideration."
A spokesperson for the SNP said: "We are not in a position to comment on an internal Police Scotland employment issue, which we understand involves a number of staff."
