SNP candidates make cost of living crisis their top priority ahead of South Ayrshire Council vote

SNP election hopefuls say tackling the cost-of-living crisis is top of their agenda at tomorrow's vote.

Ayr East candidate, Chris Cullen, said: “It’s clear to see that the much spoken of cost of living crisis is impacting many residents’ lives.

“But the truth is , it is now much more than that.

“With families across South Ayrshire being hit again and again with food, fuel and energy bills, residents of South Ayrshire are suffering and it’s not just a crisis facing the most vulnerable, though they feel it the hardest.

“Working people across the county are making personal sacrifices so that they and their children can eat, whether it’s skipping bills or going to sleep in a cold home so their families can eat.

“These are not choices we should be having to make.

“We will continue to use what powers we have to the fullest, to ensure we can reduce the effects of this Tory-made cost of living crisis.

“This is something that has already been started within out Community Wealth Building programmes.”

The party’s South Ayrshire leader, Peter Henderson, added: “Due to 12 years of austerity and continued cuts to local authority budgets, we will do all in our power, within constrained budgets to mitigate the effects.

“We will continue to ensure that all constituents receive reliefs and grants they are entitled to and continue to ensure homes are insulated to save energy costs while moving forward with the carbon neutral targets.

And Kyle candidate, Julie Dettbarn, said: “The Tory-made cost-of-living crisis has plunged our poorest and most vulnerable citizens into even deeper poverty and has pushed hard working families to the brink of financial collapse.

“Too many people who were previously managing to make ends meet, just don’t know how they are going to manage the very basics; to pay their bills and put food on the table.

“While the Tories have a proven track record of partying their way through national emergencies, oblivious to the struggles of the people; every single member of the SNP Council Group has pledged to make helping people with the cost-of-living crisis their top priority.”
