Snow forecast for Nottinghamshire next week amid warnings of weather monster

Forecasters are warning snow could hit parts of Nottinghamshire next week, as the weather continues to turn colder. Temperatures will dive to highs of just 2C by the middle of next week, according to the Met Office, with overnight lows of a bracing -3C.

Currently, the Met Office does not have snow predicted in its chart for Nottingham, though in its UK long-range weather forecast it says: "It will likely continue to be cold with further showers for much of the UK, which will fall as sleet and snow across the north leading to some accumulations of snow across higher ground."

However, according to the Apple Weather app, there is a 40 percent chance of snow falling in Nottingham on Thursday, December 8, with a 50 percent chance of snow next Saturday and a 60 percent chance on Sunday. The Weather Outlook also concurs with these predictions, saying there is a risk of snow, particularly on Saturday, December 10.

The forecasts come as weather experts warn we are about to a period of much colder weather. Speaking to our sister website Leicestershire Live on the possibility of snow over the border, weather expert Phil Morrish said: "An area of high pressure over Scandinavia is now controlling our weather with winds coming in from the north east until Wednesday. Its source is cool rather than cold however. By Wednesday, a large high over Greenland will turn winds into the north. There will be more sun but a few snow showers by Thursday.”
