Snooker legend Terry Griffiths lost after unknowingly given spliff by Jimmy White

Snooker legend Terry Griffiths unwittingly smoked a spliff given to him by wildman Jimmy White – and missed all his shots.

Promoter Barry Hearn said teetotaller Terry was the star attraction at a trick shot contest at the Hong Kong Masters.

Barry, who was master of ceremonies, said: “We held the best back to last.

"I gave it the big build-up, ‘Now, the 1979 world champion and a great trick-shot artist, the one and only TERRRRRY GRIFFITHSSS’.”

At first Terry failed to appear but then came out “walking like a drunkard”.

Asked if he was OK, Terry replied: “I’ve just had one of Jimmy’s fags.

"Those big roll-your-own ones. They’re great, aren’t they?”

Barry said: “Terry messed up every shot.”

In his new book My Life, he added: “Jimmy tried every toxic substance known to man.”

Jimmy, 59, who won three senior World titles, has told of his crack and cocaine addiction.

Terry, 74, was a World Championship quarter-finalist nine years in a row.
